In 2003, after a hiatus of 14 years, the 6 Series was revived and reinvigorated as BMW's range of luxury coupes with long and wide bodies unmistakable for any other. The 2004 model year of the 6 Series's 2nd generation features the 645Ci coupe and the 645Ci convertible, both of which receive a 4.4L 328 hp V8 eight-cylinder DOHC engine, as well as the 630i coupe that drives on a 3.0L 254 hp inline six-cylinder DOHC engine. All models for 2004 come with a 6AT and in an FR configuration. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 7.3 to 7.9 km/l for the 4.4L models, and 8.7 km/l for the 3.0L 630i.
The 3rd generation 6 Series sees the introduction of BMW's first four-door luxury gran coupe. The 2011 model year receives a 3.0L 316 hp inline six-cylinder DOHC turbo engine in the 640i coupe and a 4.4L 444 hp V8 eight-cylinder DOHC twin-turbo engine in the 650i convertible. All 2011 6 Series models arrive mated to an 8AT and in FR. Featured highlights include a 10.2-inch high-resolution wide control display that uses an independent flat screen.
