2009 TOYOTA Alphard

Origin
The Alphard was developed as Toyota's flagship MPV under the leadership of Hideyuki Iwata, the company's chief engineer. It was based mainly on the second-generation Previa/Estima and succeeded other minivan lines, including the Granvia and Regius. Though it was initially produced for the Asian market, the Alphard charmed drivers worldwide, ultimately leading to versions made for the global market.
1st Generation (AH10; 2002-2007)
Toyota's new top-of-the-line MPV boasted an impactful boxy design complete with a V-shaped grille that added an aggressive edge. Designed with the driver and passengers' needs in mind, the Alphard was available in two seating configurations--either a 7-seater with a 2-2-3 formation or an 8-seater with a 2-3-3 formation. Engine options for the first generation Alphard were a 3.0L V6 six-cylinder VVT-i capable of 217 hp or a 2.4L inline four-cylinder VVT-i that developed 157 hp, both of which were gasoline vehicles. In contrast, the hybrid Alphard featured the 2.4L inline four-cylinder 2AZ-FXE petrol hybrid engine. Transmissions were a four-speed automatic for the gasoline vehicles and an e-CVT for the hybrid.
2nd Generation (AH20; 2008-2014)
Toyota released the second-generation Alphard in 2008 alongside its twin model, the Vellfire. In contrast to the Vellfire, which emphasized "strength and strong individuality," the Alphard was marketed as having an "elegant and sophisticated" design. Many design elements from the previous generation were carried over, such as its wide headlights and taillights. 3rd Generation (AH30; 2015-2022)
The AH30 Alphard was redesigned with a 50 mm longer wheelbase, a 60 mm increase in overall length, and a 20 mm increase in width, in line with Toyota's continued effort to develop a "luxury saloon with a large space." The exterior also received a makeover. Most prominently, the front bumper was trimmed to make room for a larger, bolder grille. Internally, the floor of the new platform used by the Alphard was flattened, allowing for greater seating customizability, with the second row of seats able to slide back and forth up to 1160 mm. This new platform, known as Toyota's MC, also came with a new double-wishbone rear suspension.
Powering the third generation Alphard were gasoline engines: the 2.5L inline four-cylinder 2AR-FE, the 3.5L V6 six-cylinder 2GR-FE, or the 3.5L V6 six-cylinder 2GR-FKS mated an eight-speed automatic, which replaced the 2GR-FE from 2018.
