The Civic Type R sports compact is the performance model of Honda's popular Civic compact car. The Type R first made its appearance in 1997 and was based on the sixth-generation Civic.

The three-door hatchback Type R reduces overall weight by eliminating the sound deadening feature, while incorporating a B16B 1.6L naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder engine capable of a 182 hp. This gives it a top speed of 225 km/h and allows the Type R to accelerate to 97 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Two Type R models were developed for its third generation (2007-2011): one for the Japanese domestic market (JDM) and another for the European and international market. The JDM version (available at Be Forward) is a four-door sedan equipped with a 2.0L 222 hp inline four-cylinder engine mated to a 6MT.

For its fifth generation (2017-2021), the Type R receives sports stylings like carbon fiber side skirts, smoked lenses for its indicators, side repeaters and headlights, and 20-inch black alloy wheels with red accents. The engine for JDM Type Rs is a 2.0L turbocharged inline four-cylinder with an output of 316 hp mated to a 6MT.
