As the Vanette had been around for such a long time, it was amped up for the new millennium. Nissan made a full model change starting with its early 2000s Vanette with the exterior design, instrument panel, chassis frame and lengthening of the vehicle to comply with collision regulations. Also during this time of model overhaul, both gasoline and diesel engines (included for the Vanette's truck counterpart) were changed to electronically controlled engines. It was also equipped with dual airbags and an ABS option.
