Suzuki is well-known for its "kei" class cars (compact, sub 1.0L engine vehicles) in Japan. Since 1970, the Jimny has been the manufacturer’s kei-sized crossover/off-roader featuring the legendary ladder frame. The Jimny is powered by a small and punchy 660cc engine but features the same basic DNA as any other full-sized cross-over including 4WD, choice of manual or automatic gearboxes, high ride height (compared to other kei cars) as well as 16-inch wheels that are large for a car in this class.
In its 2012 model year, the Jimny's engine sports a 660cc inline three-cylinder DOHC intercooler unit with an output of 64 hp, mated to either a 5MT or 4AT. Fuel efficiency ranges from 14.8 to 16.4 km/l. Feature highlights on this model year include part-time 4WD with sub-transmission, a drive action 4x4 that allows for switching between 4H and 2H even while driving, a change-up in the height and construction of its front hood to mitigate the impact to pedestrians in the case of collision, as well as fixing anchors for ISOFIX compliant child seats.
