The Subaru Outback adopts several key features of the touring wagon – its front and rear bumpers, fenders, and side skirts. With its minimum ground height set at a mere 200mm, the Outback lives up to its concept as a "crossover sports" vehicle by achieving both off-road endurance, as well as touring wagon-like on-road drivability. Outbacks from 2005 are fitted with either a 6 cylinder 3L DOHC 24 valve or 4 cylinder 2.5L SOHC 16 valve, while newer models come with either a 3.6L or 2.5L DOHC engine. Older models are also offered in either 4AT or 5AT, and achieve fuel efficiencies of 11.6 or 13.0 km/l, while in the lineup of newer Outbacks are either CVT or 5AT models with fuel efficiencies ranging from 9.2 to 14.8 km/l.
The newer Outbacks are equipped with the revolutionary EyeSight driver assist system that recognizes colors to detect and warn the driver of dangers on the road ahead. In addition, the car offers other ground breaking safety features like the Active Lane Keep steering support system, involuntary reverse control, crash avoidance control, and adaptive cruise control to create the safest possible drive.
