The Subaru Sambar is a series of cab-over kei trucks and minivans that run on their rear wheels powered by an engine equipped at the rear of their sturdily built frames. The series spans over eight generations (with more possibly to come) since its release in 1961. Since 2012, Daihatsu has taken over duties to produce the seventh generation of Sambar vans and trucks that are actually rebadged as the Daihatsu Hijet, as well as the passenger version of the Sambar which has been rebadged as the Daihatsu Atrai since 2009. For its sixth generation that ran from 1999 to 2012, the Sambar’s 660cc engine comes as a 47 hp inline four-cylinder SOHC or a 57 hp inline four-cylinder SOHC Super Charger, both of which are mated to either a three-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. In addition to the standard RR drive system are full-time 4WD models. Fuel efficiency ranges from 15.0 to 17.2 km/l.

Standard safety features include driver seat airbags and seat belts with load limiters; and since 2008, the Sambar has also come with dual front passenger airbags, power sliding rear doors, power windows, and leather interior on its upper trims. So we got off to a rocky start with the purchase, but when it finally came together it was pretty smooth. I would love if it came with a little longer guarantee (check engine light came on 2 weeks after receiving as opposed to 2 days). Overall I would say I am fairly happy with my purchase.
