Volkswagen reintroduced its classic Beetle model with the New Beetle. After succeeding in the international market with the Beetle, the New Beetle is designed with new features that improved the overall driving experience. To maximize the interior space, the New Beetle has a FF system instead of the old RR layout. It’s equipped with an inline-four engine that has some pull. The standard transmission for the Beetle is Automatic but for the 2001 to 2004 models, MT is an option.
From 2007, the New Beetle comes in two engine sizes with FF drive – a 2L engine that generates 116hp/17.5kgm, and a 1.6L engine with 102hp/15.1kgm. The regular sedan model uses a 4 speed AT, while the cabriolet uses a Tiptronic 6 speed AT. Between the sedan and the cabriolet, there are a total of 5 variations. The most premium model, the LZ, comes furnished with leather interior and sliding sunroof, while the 1.6L engine comes available only in the EZ model sedan. The fuel economies of the New Beetle are 9.9km/l and 11.2km/l for the 2L and 1.6L models, respectively. Safety features in the New Beetle include dual and side airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), seatbelt with tensioner and force limiter. An engine immobilizer has also been installed as an anti-theft measure.
